Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
In the last two bulletins I have shared with you the need to consider a family-based Catechesis for our parish. It is clear from many sources that the future of Catechesis of necessity must include helping parents to catechize and assist in handing on the Faith to their children.
I have already begun this initiative with some of the families of our parish and have seen the value of encouraging an active involvement of the parents in the religious education of their children. The Catechetical series that I have been using is called A Family of Faith. This parish family-based Catechism series covers the entire Catechism of the Catholic Church in four years and assists parents in teaching their children the Faith. One special advantage to teaching children catechism at home is that it is an opportunity to draw your family closer together. It also can be the occasion for correcting any errors that your children might have picked up, whether they go to Catholic or public school.
Each month parents and catechists discuss one chapter of the book and then the parents teach it to their children. There are activities in each chapter to help the children to learn the key points of each chapter. At the end of the month there is another meeting. At this meeting Catechists meet with the parents and their children to discuss what they have learned that month. There are also opportunities during the year for families to spend time with each other to support one another in this holy endeavor.
At the end of the 10 AM Mass Sister Rita Marie from the Sister Servants of the Eternal Word will give a brief overview of her experience with this program at Annunciation Parish. After Mass Sister Rita Marie and Sister Madeleine Marie will be in the Parish Hall to answer any questions you may have regarding family-based Catechesis.

En los últimos dos boletines, he compartido con ustedes la necesidad de considerar una catequesis basada en la familia para nuestra parroquia. De muchas fuentes queda claro que el futuro de la catequesis necesariamente debe incluir la ayuda de los padres a catequizar y transmitir la Fe a sus hijos.
Ya he comenzado esta iniciativa con algunas de las familias de nuestra parroquia y he visto el valor de fomentar una participación activa de los padres en la educación religiosa de sus hijos. La serie catequética que he estado usando se llama Una familia de fe. Esta serie parroquial de catecismo familiar cubre todo el Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica en cuatro años y ayuda a los padres a enseñar la fe a sus hijos. Una ventaja especial de enseñar a los niños el catecismo en el hogar es que es una oportunidad para acercar más a su familia. También puede ser la ocasión para corregir cualquier error que sus hijos puedan haber detectado, ya sea que vayan a una escuela católica o pública.
Cada mes, los padres y los catequistas discuten un capÃtulo del libro y luego los padres lo enseñan a sus hijos. Hay actividades en cada capÃtulo para ayudar a los niños a aprender los puntos clave de cada capÃtulo. Al final del mes hay otra reunión. En esta reunión, los catequistas se reúnen con los padres y sus hijos para hablar sobre lo que han aprendido ese mes. También hay oportunidades durante el año para que las familias pasen tiempo juntas para apoyarse mutuamente en este esfuerzo sagrado.
